what i don't get about how these writers/mangaka treats Akai is... once Ran remembers seeing him with the FBI in the NYC case... and she tells Conan... and then Conan tells Haibara... why treat Akai like he's 'a bad guy'? sure, the FBI jacket Ran saw could have been fake. sure, Akai could have been a criminal mole, or a foreign spy, or Vermouth/somebody else in disguise, or whatever. it just doesn't make sense to keep hiding Akai 'in the shadows' all the time... well...

except for that damned obvious black 'Chevy' pickup truck he drives around all. the. time. do you know how hard and expensive it is to ship and register and drive a left-hand steering wheel vehicle in Japan? it. is. nuts! plus, it is an OBVIOUS import, in the 1990's... i'm pretty damn 100% sure... Honda, Toyota, and Nissan didn't make pickup trucks yet. and they didn't make em in Japan, unless they were right hand drive versions. because the Japanese (except for folks living out in the boonies) don't have much of a need for personal pickup trucks. if they need something like that, they go rent/lease one for a while, then return it.

I think they're still trying to keep Akai a mystery / make you think he's a fake FBI or something until it's all revealed in the Vermouth arc's final episode
